Usually that means you have something blocking third-party cookies (kinja is third-party to jalopnik, but not to oppositelock, which is a kinja site).

I mean lots of other stuff can break (we are talking about kinja), but that’s a pretty common issue with a known fix (which hopefully actually applies to you)
